Menschi got clearance from Dr. Katzenstein to go home to Savannah for Shabbos. Hooray!!! Everyone at Aflac (our home away from home) was so pleased to see how beautifully Menschi was doing.
This morning we also met with Dr. Natia Esiashvili (a pediatric radiation oncologist here in Atlanta). She spent quite a bit of time with us (even though Menschi was losing his patience while she was explaining our options). She suggested that Menschi get radiation therapy in Jacksonville, Florida. They have one of the few proton beam facilities in the country(only a 2hr car ride from Savannah). Even though Atlanta has state of the art conventional radiation therapy, the feeling is that proton beam radiation spares the sorrounding tissue more effectively and this is critical with cranial radiation(for an explanation of proton therapy click on this link (http://www.floridaproton.org/cancer-treatment/benefits-over-others.html). Menschi will be getting abdominal and cranial radiation(over a 3 week period) in the hope of minimizing recurrence to those areas. Short term side effects should be much more tolerable than chemotherapy (Thank Gd for that).
We are confident in our medical team but know who's really running the show.
LOOKING FORWARD TO SHABBOS AT HOME!!!
