A "united" Jewish Appeal

Thank you to all of you who are davening, donating and soliciting on our behalf. We are touched and grateful. We are awed by the achdus(unity) that our situation has elicited. Concern and involvement have been expressed by Jews across the spectrum of observance and culture.Syrian Jews, British Jews, Bobov Chasidim, sfardim, Israelis, Americans, --- most total strangers --- all helping out because a fellow yid is in trouble --- MI KAMCHA YISROEL!!!! WHO IS LIKE YOU NATION OF ISRAEL?? The Menucha and Shalom little Menachem Shalom is evoking is palpable.
There has been "a lot of excitement" at Chai Lifeline for the Landon Family Fund. Chai Lifeline Director Answers Donor Questions:
Q-"what if we raise more money than is needed" (if only!)
Q-"what happens to the money if it ends up getting refunded?"
A-
1.We can expect to nudge the hosp. to give the money back for about a year before they return it.
2.When a person gives to a tax-deductible organization, the money that is used cannot be refunded to a person (otherwise you could run into money-laundering issues)
3.In the past when they've provided a tax-deductible fund for people, the remainder of the money if/when it gets refunded comes in a check to Chai Lifeline. Chai Lifeline puts it away for the child (in this case Menschi) for future needs and when it's determined that it is no longer needed gets absorbed into Chai Lifeline's general fund. This is the only way legally they can do this because people are making a tax-deductible donation --- not a loan or anything like that.
Q-"if I write a check to Sloan Kettering could Sloan Kettering refund the money if it isn't used?" A-I would imagine yes, but keep in mind it is likely it would be extremely difficult to get back.

I spoke with the Chai Lifeline office in Canada. If donating by cheque, you should still mail it to the North Miami Beach office but indicate you would like a Canadian tax receipt and the cheque will be processed through the Toronto office. Even easier is to donate with a credit card at https://www.chailifelinecanada.org/donate.php and still indicate in the comments box that it is for the Landon's.
