Tootsie Rolls weren't doing it for him today.
Narcotics weren't doing it for him either.
The day started bright and early at 8:30 with multiple attempts at getting a line into Menschi's veins. After playing pin cushion for a while we took a break. Finally, they got a vein. 3F8 didn't start until afternoon.
In spite of heavy duty narcotics he just couldn't fall asleep.
One of the nurses at Sloan said it's common for kids in pain to repeat a phrase over and over again (like a calming mantra) "owie,owie,owie,owie" or "mommy,mommmy,mommy" . Menschi's mantra started out as "my tummy,my tummy,my tummy", but then switched to
"I want Daddy,I want Daddy."That brought me back to the chemo days when he would endlessly ask for different things to console him, but couldn't ultimately find relief.
By the end of this long day, I think my mantra may be the same as his.
